On Friday April 21, 2017, the Kaya Fest will be hosting an innovative, free symposium “Education Before Recreation” featuring a panel of experts who are on the forefront of cannabis education and regulation in the state of Florida. Panelists will discuss the many uses of the cannabis plant as well as the new laws in Florida. Co-sponsored by NORML of Florida, the symposium will be held on Friday, April 21from Noon to 4PM at the Miami History Museum, 101 West Flagler Street in Downtown Miami.
“My Father was at the forefront of the movement to educate people about the benefits of cannabis,” says Stephen Marley, son of Bob Marley and Producer of the Kaya Fest. “Its good to see that change is finally coming.”
Moderating the panel will be the eldest granddaughter of Rita Marley, filmmaker, motivational speaker, and community activist – Donisha Pendergast - who is currently working on a short film delving into what mother and child have endured as a result of the criminalization of cannabis.
Confirmed panelists include: Dr. Jeffrey S. Block, a nationally respected authority in both healthcare and natural earth sciences; Scheril Murray Powell, General Counsel for Minorities for Medical Marijuana; Michael Minardi, NORML legal committee; Will Kleidon, Ojai Energetics; Dr. Nadine Gourkow, Veterinary Herbal Medicine; Karen Serb Goldstein, NORML of Florida; Derek Kesek, Hempearth Group; and Jacel Delgadillo, Canna Mom with more experts to be announced.
Produced by Stephen Marley, eight-time Grammy award winner, songwriter, music producer and son of the legend Bob Marley, the Kaya Fest will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, 2017 beginning at 1PM at Bayfront Park Amphitheatre, 301 Biscayne Blvd. in downtown Miami.
Performing together for the first time in over 20 years, The Marley Brothers including Ziggy, Stephen, Damian, Ky-Mani and more, will headline the festival, with a special appearance by Ms. Lauryn Hill. Also performing will be Grammy award-winning Jamaican international superstar Sean Paul, Grammy award-winning hip-hop legend Wyclef Jean and legendary Jamaican reggae group Inner Circle, along with appearances by Skip Marley, Jo Mersa Marley and Shacia Payne. The purpose of the Kaya Fest is to educate people on the many uses of the cannabis plant as well as to inspire and encourage positive public awareness, with more states approving the use of medical marijuana, such as Florida where it became legal in 2016.
